Look your best Online

Having a long distance relationship? An important business meeting via skype? or keeping up with your friends via facetime?

These applications offer an instant way to connect, but the screen itself  can alter your beautiful face. The screen casts a green tone over you and washes out your colour, The result is that it makes you look flat and your hair gets a weird and messy silhouette.

Fortunately, there are few specific light and angle fixes that can make a world of a difference—along with a bit of hair and makeup strategy—that can make anyone appear more than perfect. Here, is my guide to a better FaceTime or Skype session:

(1) Position yourself so that you are facing a bright sunny window for the duration of your session. Warm lighting is always more flattering than cool lighting. If there isn’t a window nearby, or if it’s dark outside, choose a well-lit spot like the kitchen and make sure the main source of light is coming toward you at face level—not from above or below (hello blairewitch!). Those little white christmas lights work wonders for this! ;)

(2) Make sure the camera on your computer is at eye level. One of the main reasons people look bad on-screen is that the computer is placed low on a desk or lap, so your head is tilted downward. Being shot from the chin upward is only going to give you a gruesome double chin. To Avoid this, take a stack of books and prop up your computer or iPad. My secret; crop your head right to the top of the screen.

(3) Look straight into the camera, (I know it’s hard not to check yourself out) This is particular important if you’re having a business meeting, interview or online audition.

(4) Leave hair loose around the face, it tends to be softer and more forgiving than going the ponytail route. Run a brush through your hair to ensure a smooth silhouette and use hair spray or serum to secure flyaways.

(5) Apply a little bit more makeup than usual, but don’t overdo it. You can always use your “online camera” as a mirror to apply it. This way you’ll be able to see exactly what it’s going to look like. If you tend to be shiny, you can dust a finely milled powder over the T-zone for good measure. And if possible, avoid wearing glasses.

Now you’re ready to put your best “online” face out there!

The cheekbone-chiseling pony tail

The easiest and quickest way to a sculpted facelift is with a simple elastic band. Simply back comb the crown of your head, then pull front sections straight over the teased crown. Follow the lines of your cheek bones to figure out where the ponytail should be. Doing this will optimized the face-lifting effect. Use a bungee elastic rather than a bare rubber band (really would anyone still do that in 2013) Eh Voila! time for your close up!

One of my favorite places to shop when I visit London aside from the obvious carnaby street is Harrods. It’s the U.k version of Bergdorfs on steroids. It’s pure shopping heaven on earth. All the latest designers, brands, makeup and skin care in one luxurious place. There’s also places to have tea inside (that means something to eat in England) as well as and upscale urban retreat salon.

This is where you’ll find the worlds most expensive blow dry. A 1 HR that will run you £275(Including takeaway complimentary shampoo and conditioner)Using the exclusive Truffle by Fuente Shampoo and Conditioner which is infused with the skin of white truffles, pure diamond dust and meteorite extracts, The World’s Most Expensive Blowdry will inject you with a little radiance and feed your hair with the rarest natural ingredients available on Earth. A cranial massage followed by a glossy blowdry – this treatment will leave you with shiny silken locks and a spring in your step! Know the rich-girl secret for crazy shine

Healthy hair looks as if you’ve always had the time and the money. Well, fake it till you make it! The key to great looking hair is to flatten the cuticles or the outermost part of the hair so that it can reflect the light. How? Add a thickening spray to the roots of the hair; blow dry hair using a 2.5 inch round brush with the nozzle of the hair dryer against sections of your hair. Blow drying is like riding a bike.. It’s quite hard at first, but practice makes perfect and once you get it you’ll have fabulous hair for the rest of your life. Or you can always head over to your locale Blow bar :)

Full again

Tired of thick lifeless hair, especially during winter? Well, I sure am. I’ve tried many products for volumizing, thickening and fortifying and most of them just seem to make my fine hair more lifeless than it already is. That is, until I discovered Kevin Murphy’s thickening lotion. I kept reading about it in numerous magazines and seeing it on the counters of salons professionals. So while I was at my hair salon I asked my hairdresser if i could try it out and see what all the fuss is about. I applied a small pea sized amount of the lotion to the palm of my hand and smoothed it all over my hair from mid length to tips. After my blow dry was done, I could not only see the difference but feel the difference! My pony tail felt like it doubled in size! Amazing! After that, I bought a bottle and cant stop using it. It really lives up to all the hype.

While its hard to find, check out Kevin Murphy’s site to find a salon near you.

Beach hair

Returning home from the Mediterranean was a but if a bummer. Saying good bye to my voluminous beach hair was even worse. There’s nothing like recapturing my childhood obsession of Pamela Anderson’s CJ hair from baywatch (the body is another story)
Until I discovered bumble and bumble surf spray. What it is is a saltwater-based styling spray. It ads volume and a matte texture to the hair to create a sexy, wind-blown beach effect. Salt water is no secret to editorial stylists for adding volume and texture, and anyone who has been in the ocean knows of that salty, sexy, sun-dried, wind-styled look. So while Bumble and bumble hasn’t exactly bottled the real thing, they’ve replicated and improved it, including seaweed and kelp extracts to enhance moisture. I managed to fill a whole smartwater water bottle full from cap d’ile, but with the 23 kilo allowance on luggage, I had to say good bye. Thank goodness for bumble and bumble.
