Why you should LOVE Seaweed

Seaweed is packed with vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and amino acids that are essential in maintaining healthy and youthful skin.  This natural marine wonder helps slow the aging skin process while protecting it from the harsh environmental elements in the air and water. Essential vitamins include: A1, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, E, K, pantothenic acid, folic acid, and niacin. As well as being rich with antioxidants such as beta-carotene and over 60 trace elements that include potassium, calcium, iodine, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, zinc and manganese, seaweed is a major source of B12. Organic Iodine found in seaweed also increases metabolism, hence being great for cellulite. Seaweed also contains fatty acids to combat skin irritation and inflammation. It’s no wonder seaweed wraps can be found at luxurious spas all over the world.
sarah scotford bali indonesia I decided recently to go straight to the source of seaweed farming and see for myself the entire process from sea to beauty giants.
It began with a 22hr flight followed up by a 3hour boat ride and topped off with a 30min scooter trek across the luscious island of Lembongan.
Nusa Lembongan is an island located southeast of Bali, Indonesia. The main income for the island is derived from the seaweed farming.
It takes one month to grow to a size able to be harvested and then three days to sundry. They lay them out on tarps in the sunlight and the warm salty air smells like fruit roll ups.

After drying, the seaweeds are then placed in sacks. Local businessmen purchase these sacks directly from the fishermen and are responsible for their exportation to America, Denmark, Japan and Holland. There, it is processed and used for such things as medicines, food stabilizers, cosmetics and gelatin for ice cream.

There is whole slew of ways seaweed can be used all over the body from head to toe. And numerous ways to consume it as well. This is my favorite ‘cosmetic’ way to use this ocean powerhouse. Feel free to tell me yours.

I happen to browse my way to your site because I was looking for Bali seaweed farm. I visited Lembongan and stood at the same spot you were and visited the fisherman village. Such pristine beautiful place, isn’t it. I hope it remains that way and that commercialism doesn’t come and destroy the villagers’ way of life. Cheers!
